Authorities in Oregon said that a man was taken into custody Thursday after he briefly plowed his car into a crowd of pro-Palestine protesters at Portland State University.
The driver who stopped before hitting anyone then exited his white Toyota Camry and fled while pepper-spraying those trying to catch him.
Officers later located the suspect and arrested him. He is currently on a police mental health hold, the Portland Police Bureau said.
The abandoned car was vandalized by protesters who smashed its windows and spray-painted graffiti on it.
Thursday’s incident occurred hours after Portland Police officers cleared out a campus library that had been occupied by demonstrators since Monday, arresting 22 people
