Teen with Down syndrome found dead in pond, last seen riding his bike

Michigan authorities announced Friday that the week-long search for a teen with Down syndrome has reached a tragic end after his body was found at a pond near his home.

15-year-old Charles Cordes was last seen alive riding his bike on June 12 through a hayfield. Searchers recovered his bike, belt, slippers, and glasses in the field but he was nowhere to be found.

Cordes’ body was found on Friday evening in a nearby pond. At this time, there is no word on his death’s circumstances.

“A 15-year-old child Charles Cordes was found deceased in a pond near his home. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Cordes family. We would like to thank the community for their overwhelming support during this difficult time,” police said.
