Trump followed sole Inauguration tradition when he left note for successor in Oval Office

Washington D.C. news, Washington news.

While he skipped the most important part of the Inauguration Day traditions, Donald Trump at least kept in with one single formality when he decided to leave a note for Joe Biden in the Oval Office.

Sources told The Post that Trump avoided entering the Oval Office on Wednesday morning as he prepared to leave the White House and chose to hand it over to an aide.

He shortly later departed the residence for the last time as President at around 8 a.m. headed to Joint Base Andrews, Maryland.

The tradition was started by President Ronald Reagan who in 1989 left a note on the Resolute Desk for his successor, George H.W. Bush wishing him success.

The content of Trump’s note to Biden is not clear at the time. Other officials of the Trump administration also left best wishes for their substitutes.

“Wishing all the best to President @JoeBiden’s incoming press & communications team,” former press secretary Kayleigh McEnany tweeted.

“Left those notes…sending my prayers as you begin your service to the American People!”
