A female employee at an Iowa youth facility died last week after being assaulted by a juvenile, Police in Johnston said.
Kathleen Galloway-Menke, 50, succumbed to her injuries Tuesday days after she was assaulted on May 8 by a 15-year-old resident of the Ellipsis Iowa center.
The resident, who has “a history of being violent”, was trying to leave the campus when Galloway-Menke and a male co-worker followed him.
Police said that despite keeping a safe distance between them and the youth, he ran at Galloway-Menke and shoved her causing her to hit her head against the ground.
Four officers suffered minor wounds in the altercation that followed the incident. The juvenile is currently in custody and faces criminal charges.
“Ellipsis is profoundly saddened by this situation, and we extend heartfelt thoughts to all who are affected. We deeply and personally mourn this loss,” said Chief Executive Officer Chris Keopplin.
