The family of a Kentucky high school student is seeking answers regarding his sudden passing after he suffered a “medical crisis” and died at school Friday.
Emmanuel Mwakadi, 17, died hours after he broke up a fight in the school restroom, according to his family’s attorney.
“Shortly thereafter, he complained of head and neck pain,” Justin Peterson said.
“He went to a second-period class, where he appears to have fallen asleep, and then, shortly before the class ended, suffered a medical event.”
Mwakadi’s mom was called at around 10 a.m. and asked to go to the hospital where she found doctors trying to revive her dying son.
The family was left “disturbed” by the lack of information from school officials. They said Mwakadi was a football player and a wrestler and had no known health issues.
“Everyone we have interviewed, whether it’s students or teachers or administrative personnel, everyone loved Emmanuel,” the lawyer said.
“He was so well-loved at school. He wanted to be a police officer. He had started some training at the local police station.”
“The families want open and honest communication. We believe that’s going to happen. We believe we’re going to have discussions to ultimately figure this out.”
