A Kansas High School baseball team is suspended as authorities investigate the killing of a chicken on their field this week.
The Valley Center Department of Public Safety said that on Monday, a school resource officer was contacted by an employee at Valley Center High School who reported the incident.

The employee alleged that the baseball team slaughtered the chicken on their field Saturday before heading to an away game.
The school district alerted parents in a letter that the baseball team’s season was suspended as they face criminal charges of animal cruelty with malicious torture or killing.
Detectives are working to identify the culprits and determine whether coaches or assistants were involved in the incident.
