A New Jersey couple was charged in the fatal beating of their 3-month-old daughter, authorities said.
Ruben Santiago and Caitlin Gibson were each charged with a count of first-degree murder in the killing of their infant daughter.
Officers responded to the couple’s home on Pinehurst Drive at around 7:20 p.m. Monday.
The infant was found unresponsive and couldn’t be saved despite life-saving measures administered at the scene.
EMS rushed the girl to a hospital, where she succumbed on Tuesday. An autopsy showed she died from blunt force trauma and suffered a fractured skull from repeated blows to the head.
Investigators blamed the girl’s death on her parents but did not disclose further details.
The couple was arrested Wednesday and did not speak during a Thursday court appearance. They are being held in Ocean County Jail.
