An 8-year-old girl and her 5-year-old brother were killed Saturday afternoon when a drunken woman plowed her car into a Michigan boat club where kids and parents celebrated a child’s birthday.
The tragic crash occurred at around 3 a.m. at the Swan Creek Boat Club when the 66-year-old woman lost control of her blue SUV and sped through the club’s parking lot and into the back wall of the building.
“The scene was described by the first responders as extremely chaotic, with high level of emotions of those directly involved and those who witnessed this horrific incident,” said Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough.
At least thirteen other people suffered injuries, some considered life-threatening; Three children and six adults were rushed to local hospitals.
The driver remained at the scene and was taken into custody on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing death.
