The decomposing body found in a duffel bag along a Philadelphia street in March was that of a missing 4-year-old boy whose mother and her boyfriend have since been arrested for murder.
Workers with the Community Life Improvement Program made the gruesome discovery of Damari Carter’s body inside a duffel bag while cleaning the street on March 18.
On Wednesday, authorities confirmed the boy’s identity through DNA and clothing the victim was last seen wearing before he vanished on December 30.
Investigators believe that Carter was beaten to death before his mother, 28-year-old Dominique Bailey, told family members that he died in a crash.
Bailey and her 30-year-old boyfriend Kevin Spencer have since been arrested. They were charged with murder, conspiracy, endangering the welfare of children, and abuse of a corpse among other counts.
