A New Jersey man was taken into custody Friday hours after he allegedly stabbed a man to death and wounded another, officials said.
Steven McNeill, 32, is now facing murder charges in connection with the double stabbing at an Adams Avenue residence.
An off-duty Seaside Park police officer reported an altercation at the home at around 7:20 a.m.
Responding officers located Raniek Mendez, 34, who was suffering from a fatal stab wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at the Community Medical Center in Toms River.
The second victim, 30-year-old Roderick Seward, was rushed to the Ocean University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police located the suspect’s car in Jackson Township, where he was apprehended by Toms River officers after refusing “to abide by the commands of law enforcement.”
Seward was charged with possession of less than one-half ounce of cocaine with intent to distribute after police found “an amount of cocaine” in his backpack
Investigators said that about 90 minutes before the stabbing, police were at the same residence over an altercation involving Seward and McNeil.
