SC officer suspended after 4-year-old son shoots himself in head with dad’s service weapon

A South Carolina police officer was suspended after his son found his unsecured service weapon and shot himself in the head.

Peter Tidot, 29, told investigators that he kept his Sig Sauer .45 in his waistband while visiting his parents in North Miami Beach with his son on Wednesday.

The 4-year-old grabbed the weapon that had a round in the chamber and fired the shot, wounding himself.

  • Family members said that the boy is “doing good” at the hospital but his father is facing charges of child neglect with great bodily harm and culpable negligence.

    Tidot, who was recently hired, is “placed on investigatory suspension” following his arrest.

    “We are praying for the speedy recovery of the child and everyone impacted by the incredibly unfortunate incident,” Columbia Police Chief W.H. Holbrook commented.

    “Let this serve as a reminder about the importance of gun safety and proper gun storage.”
