Authorities in West Virginia on Monday located the remains of a 10-year-old girl and her mother 24 years after they went missing.

The main suspect in Susan and Natasha “Alex” Carter’s murder, Larry Webb, died six hours earlier while being incarcerated at Mount Olive Correctional Complex after suffering a medical issue.

Alex went missing with her 41-year-old mother Susan Carter in August 2000 while they were living at Webb’s home.

While the man initially denied knowing what happened to the pair citing his dementia diagnosis, he reportedly confessed to the murders hours before his death.

Since 2021, the FBI and police have conducted multiple search warrants at Webb’s home and recovered evidence from the scene.

Webb, an octogenarian, told detectives he shot Carter dead after accusing her of stealing cash from him.

He then killed Alex to avoid getting caught for her mother’s disappearance. Both victims were then wrapped in bed linings and buried in a shallow grave in Webb’s backyard.
