Minnesota mother indicted for stabbing young sons; setting home ablaze

A Minnesota mother was indicted Monday for the March 15 killings of her two young sons, officials said.

Jennifer Stately, 35, is accused of stabbing Remi and Tristan Stately, aged 6 and 5, before setting the home on fire.

Stately then fled with her 3-year-old son. One of the victims died from stab wounds to the chest while the other died from smoke inhalation despite suffering from stab wounds.

Police located Stately and her surviving son in Red Lake Indian Reservation in Todd County.

  • “Law enforcement located and stopped Stately’s vehicle and recovered Minor C, who was suffering from visible signs of child neglect,” a statement from federal authorities read.

    “[He] had a very strong smell of body odor as if he had not been washed or changed in a few days,” prosecutors said of the toddler.

    “His cheeks were red and the sores appeared to be bleeding. His feet were full of scabs that appeared to be a mix of old and new wounds.”

    The suspect was charged with premeditated murder, murder in the course of committing child abuse, murder in the course of committing arson, arson, and child neglect.
