A New Jersey father was killed while defending his teen daughter from a man and his son on Easter Sunday, authorities said.
Eric Hannah, 55, and his 17-year-old son, identified as J.H., were charged with homicide in connection with the slaying of Louis “Gus” Serbeck.
The 54-year-old victim went to Hannah’s home to confront the father and son over an alleged assault against his daughter.
An altercation between Serbeck and J.H. erupted, with the teen sustaining facial injuries.
J.H. then reportedly retrieved a metal baseball bat and struck Serbeck “several times” in the head.
His father joined the fight, hitting Serbeck with a flashlight on the back of the head. The victim’s daughter was also injured.
Serbeck’s brother said the two families were once friends, describing the alleged killer as a “lifelong friend of the family.”
“He went to school with my oldest brother. Known him our whole life. No expectations of something like this happening at all.”
