A West Virginia stepfather has allegedly admitted to throwing a crying baby out of frustration, causing the baby's death on Sunday.
Zachary Williams, 27, was charged with first-degree murder and child abuse causing death in connection with the death of his 1-year-old stepson.
The baby stopped breathing and was declared dead at a hospital an hour after EMS responded to Williams’ home.
Police questioned the baby’s mother and grandparents and learned that he was fine but was suffering from a cold on Sunday morning.
The baby’s mother said she asked Williams to help calm him down when he refused to sleep after eating breakfast.
Williams allegedly took the baby to his bedroom and, after a short while, started yelling for the mother, who found the child limp and unresponsive.
The suspect claimed that he was bouncing the baby before he became “rigid and limp,” but an autopsy showed the baby’s skull was fatally fractured as a result of trauma.
Williams eventually admitted to throwing the victim, causing him to hit his head on a bed frame and the floor.
