2 dead after small plane crash in Alaska’s North Slope

Two people were killed Wednesday when a helicopter crashed on Alaska’s remote North Slope, the National Transportation Safety Board said.

The agency was initially alerted about a missing helicopter late Wednesday morning, NTSB Alaska Chief Clint Johnson said.

  • Authorities launched a search for the aircraft before locating wreckage near the Kuparuk oil field about 30 miles west of Deadhorse.

    Federal officials said that two people were killed in the crash, identifying the doomed aircraft as a Robinson R-66.

    The NTSB is investigating the crash. There was no immediate information about the victims’ identities.
