A father fatally shot his bed-ridden son before turning the gun on himself at a Highlands County, Florida hospital Thursday.
The 66-year-old shooter brought his adult son to AdventHealth Sebring after the young man became “somewhat combative.”
When the son was admitted to a mental health unit in the ER, the father made people leave the room by firing shots at a wall.
He then proceeded to shoot his son who was lying on a bed. The father then took his own life.
The Highlands County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that the incident was first reported at 11:26 a.m.
The hospital was placed on lockdown. EMS traffic was subsequently diverted to an area facility.
There were no other injuries, the sheriff’s office said.
