Disgraced ex-cop takes own life after killing 2 women; abducting toddler triggering nationwide manhunt

A former Yakima Police Officer took his own life Tuesday following a high-speed chase after he triggered an extensive manhunt for killing two women and kidnapping a toddler over the weekend.

39-year-old Elias Huizar shot himself in the head at the end of a pursuit and shootout that involved police from Washington and Oregon as well as federal agents along I-5.

Oregon State Trooper Kyle Kennedy confirmed at a Tuesday night press conference that Huizar’s kidnapped toddler was found safe.

  • “Our goal has been to bring Roman Santos home safely. Roman is safe and in the care of Oregon officials,” Kennedy said.

    “He is doing well and being cared for. We are very, very thankful.”

    Huizar shot his ex-wife Amber Rodriguez to death at William Wiley Elementary School during dismissal Monday afternoon in an incident witnessed by the couple’s 9-year-old son.

    On the same block, Huizar’s 17-year-old girlfriend Angelica Santos was found dead inside his home. Their 1-year-old son Roman was kidnapped.
