Suspect charged in shooting that killed officer, man in southern California

Authorities in Southern California have charged a suspect with murder after he fatally shot an officer and a man on Saturday.

22-year-old Eduardo Roberto Medina Berumen was also charged with attempted murder of a peace officer in connection with the shooting that occurred late Saturday in Baldwin Park.

Police said 43-year-old Darius Wong, a father of two, was “senselessly murdered” just after parking his car.

Cops responded to reports of a man firing a rifle were “immediately” met by gunfire, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said.

    “When bullets were flying, he [Riveros] ran into bullets to try and keep his community safe and in doing so, he made the ultimate sacrifice of his life,” said LA County DA Nathan Hochman.

    Beruman was shot and injured in the chaotic gunfight with police. He remains hospitalized in stable condition.

    Investigators recovered an “AR-15 style weapon”, two high-capacity magazines, and around 40 to 60 spent casings from the scene.
