A plane crash in the western suburbs of Illinois claimed the life of a pilot Saturday afternoon, officials said.
It happened in a farm field west of Hinckley Airfield just after 2:30 p.m., DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said.
The 51-year-old male pilot of the aircraft died at the scene of the crash. A 3-year-old passenger was found safe, with non-life-threatening injuries.
The child was rushed to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb before being transferred to Lurie Children’s Hospital.
The sheriff’s office specified that the doomed plane was a single-engine 1946 Aeronca 7 AC.
The NTSB is investigating whether the aircraft was attempting to land or take off from the airport.
