New York City authorities launched a homicide investigation after the badly decomposed body of an artist was discovered inside her home without arms on April 11.

At 2 a.m., Dominique Ben-Davis’s body was found by deputies who smelled a foul odor coming from her apartment in the E. 187th St. building near Belmont Ave. Her neighbor, who was not identified, told police that the victim lived in the home with her boyfriend, a woman, and a kid and that she often heard fight sounds: “I don’t know who was beating who but it sounded like her boyfriend was beating her.”

The victim’s manner of death was not yet determined due to the body’s bad condition. It is believed she was murdered three weeks earlier: “There were no arms, and the rats had started eating her. It’s just creepy.”
