SC inmate executed for 2005 double murder after final apology to victims’ families

A South Carolina death row inmate was executed Friday for the 2005 double murder of his girlfriend and a man.

Stephen Stanko gave a three-minute final statement apologizing to the families of Laura Ling and Henry Turner.

“I have lived for approximately 20,973 days, but I am judged solely for one,” the 57-year-old said.

    Stanko was pronounced dead at 6:34 p.m. local time, 28 minutes after receiving the lethal injection, at the Columbia State prison.

    His last meal consisted of fried fish, shrimp, crab cakes, baked potato, carrots, okra, cherry pie, banana pudding, and sweet tea.
