The Karen Read’s murder retrial resumed Friday with key witness Dr. Daniel Wolfe taking the stand.
Read, 45, stands accused of fatally hitting her Boston officer boyfriend, John O’Keefe, with her Lexus on Jan. 29, 2022, and leaving him to die in a blizzard following a night of drinking at the home of a fellow officer.
Wolfe, the director of accident reconstruction for ARCCA, had first testified on behalf of the suspect, stating that O’Keefe’s injuries were not consistent with a vehicle strike.
Prosecutor Hank Brennan claimed that Read’s defense had communications with ARCCA and even paid more than $23,000 to the engineering consulting firm that was hired as part of a federal investigation of the case.
Read told reporters outside Dedham’s Norfolk Superior Court that she expected her lawyers to wrap up their case by Tuesday.
She has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder, manslaughter while operating under the influence, and leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death.
Her last year's trial resulted in a mistrial after jurors found themselves in an impasse with inconclusive deliberations.
