Two California boys are behind bars after they were caught on surveillance footage stomping a 66-year-old man to death outside a church last week.
The suspects, ages 14 and 15, ambushed the man as he slept next to his wheelchair outside St. Anthony’s Catholic Church late on June 4.
“The video shows the teens approach Mr. Davy Glen Pichel as he was seated near the church side door next to his wheelchair,” the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office said.
The teens beat and stomped Pichel, left briefly, then returned to “take turns to stomp him again.”
After a third attack, the boys partially removed the victim’s clothes before “fleeing the scene.”
A church volunteer discovered Pichel’s body near the side entrance with “significant injuries to the head and facial area.”
A court hearing was scheduled for June 24. The teens are currently being held at a local juvenile facility.
