Boy, 12, drowns in lake at Illinois campground

An Illinois boy is dead after he drowned in a lake at a Willow Springs campground late Friday, authorities said.

The 12-year-old boy and his 9-year-old brother were playing in the water at Camp Bullfrog Lake after one of them slipped in.

Bystanders who witnessed the incident rushed to the boys’ rescue, pulling the younger sibling to safety.

    The victim was pronounced dead just before 8:30 p.m. at Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital.

    He was later identified as Asael Gonzalez-Guel.
