A Houston grandmother was stabbed to death by her mentally troubled grandson during a violent confrontation early Saturday morning.
The victim called police to her apartment on Bellfort Avenue at around 2 a.m. to report that her grandson was attacking her.
By the time officers arrived at the scene, the woman had been stabbed to death.
The suspect, a man believed to be around 25 years old, fought officers before they entered the apartment.
Police said the suspect did not live at the apartment, but there were no signs of forced entry.
Preliminary reports said the suspect was schizophrenic and off his medication at the time of the incident.
Family members identified the victim as Lydia and said she was days shy of turning 66. They added that the victim and suspect were close.
Authorities did not immediately confirm the familial relationship as they work to determine a motive for the attack.
