Muncie news, Indiana news.

An Indiana man was charged after he allegedly shook his 3-month-old daughter until she stopped breathing and suffered a brain bleed that would result in developmental issues.

Neil McCaffrey, 26, has been charged with neglect resulting in bodily injury following his arrest on Wednesday.

Police responded to a home on May 8 for reports of an “unresponsive infant.”

The infant’s parents told first responders that she had a “gas bubble” stuck in her throat and that she went limp while they attempted to burp her.

Days after she underwent a surgery to relieve pressure on her brain, the infant went into cardiac arrest after suffering bleeding in her brain, eyes, and along her spinal cord.

Doctors placed the baby on a feeding tube as she fights for life. They expected that her condition would cause developmental delays.

They also attributed the injuries to being shaken or thrown. The baby’s parents denied shaking her.

Investigators later learned from the mother that McCaffrey took her to his bedroom when she started “crying uncontrollably” and emerged four minutes later when the child stopped breathing.
